Live Hand Grenade Found In Philadelphia: Police

A live hand grenade was discovered in Philadelphia, prompting a swift police response, authorities announced on Monday, March 3.

Officers from the 3rd District were called to the 1000 block of South 4th Street at 12:19 p.m. after reports of a device, police said. A staging area was set up at 4th and Washington Avenue in a recreation parking lot while the Philadelphia Police Bomb Squad investigated.

By 1 p.m., the Bomb Squad determined the grenade was "inactive" and "inert", officials said. No injuries were reported.
